No one today is unfamiliar of the word "paralysis". Paralysis is the condition where a person loses complete control over a limb or muscle group. Paralysis occurs when your brain doesn't become able to control the movement of a muscle because of some damage at any point in motor pathway.

Here, it is essential to mention that there may be a weakness in terms of controlling the muscles in beginning. This weakness is called paresis. Paralysis occurs when a person loses complete control in an affected limb after experiencing weakness for a specific amount of time. But, the good thing about the whole story is that the strength can be restored by using different treatments. Nerve regeneration is the basic way to restore the strength in an affected muscle or limb.

Before mentioning something about the treatment, it is important to throw some light on the types of paralysis. Actually, these different types are known by different names because of different affected areas. For instance, monoplegia is a situation where only one limb will be affected, whereas, hemiplegia is a situation where the one side of the body will get affected. Similarly, in paraplegia, both legs and trunk will get affected. So, there are different names that are used to refer for a paralysis of different regions.

In terms of treatment, the best way to deal with paralysis is to treat the causes. Tumor, trauma, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and metabolic disorders are few of the causes behind getting an affected limb. Damage to spinal cord can also contribute towards getting paralysis. So, knowing about the underlying causes is the most important thing to treat paralysis.

Basic treatment of paralysis includes physical therapy and occupational therapy. The basic objective behind using physical therapy is to help other muscles to maintain strength. Also, physical therapy can help to maintain the remaining strength in affected muscle or limb. Occupational therapy helps a person to perform his day to day tasks by using certain techniques.

Apart from these basic treatments, research is going on to develop some other modes of treatment. In this regard, it is essential to mention that if you are having a complete paralysis of the lower half of your body, then you can go with stem sell treatment. Stem cells can be found in bone marrow fluids. This treatment is now available in certain hospitals, but, it is still in its early days and there are some other issues that are associated with this treatment. For instance, it is not affordable for an average person which is the reason why it is not so popular.

All in all, it can easily be said that treatment of paralysis is quite tricky. Although, there are some ways of dealing with certain patients, but, there is no guarantee of getting positive results. Some people can get cured in shorter time, whereas, others may have to go through a complete rehabilitation process before showing small improvement. So, things are pretty ambiguous, but, one can hope to have some better treatments to deal with paralysis.
